- Job Summary: To patrol the City of Ward to enforce laws and ordinances; respond to calls for assistance, as directed; issue citations, make arrests and, as required, testify in court; focus is the protection of people and property.

- Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Become certified as an Officer by the Arkansas Law Enforcement Standards within one (1) year of employment including attendance of a training academy or a Part Time training course within time frame required.
- Ability to complete Field Training Officer Program training within prescribed time limitations.
- Follow all policies, laws and protocol.
- Patrols to observe criminal and traffic violations; makes arrests and/or issues citations to violators.
- Attempts to respond to citizen’s questions on laws, ordinances, and policies.
- Operates patrol cars safely as required and performs minor maintenance, such as adding gasoline, checking oil, tires, etc.
- Attends and testifies in court as required.
- Responds to calls from individuals needing police assistance (i.e., domestic disturbances, burglaries in progress, disturbances with weapons, traffic accidents, etc.); makes arrests and/or issues citations to violators when required.
- Responds to all calls for the Fire Department and/or EMS within the city limits.
- Directs traffic, as needed/directed.
- Escorts parades, funeral, and attends public events, as directed.
- Ensures crime scenes and related evidence are secured; records information received from victims, witnesses and suspects for inclusion in required reports.
- Completes incident or accident reports and other related forms for each call.
- Enforces city ordinances and state and federal laws by identifying and arresting offenders which may include physically subduing resistant violators.
- Administer basic first aid after securing the scene until medical personnel arrive and take over patient care.
- Must be able to proficiently use firearms and pass weapons certification.
- Transports prisoners to the Police Department and to/from various jails and courts.
- Reports any infractions of Department and/or City Policies and/or violations of Federal, State or local laws by any police officer or employee of the City of Ward.
- Subject to Recall / Call out at any time deemed necessary by the Operations Lieutenant or Chief of Police
- All other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police or any supervisor of this agency
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) and some college credit preferred.
- Be at least 21 years of age by employment date.
- Pass an F.B.I. and State Police finger print check.
- Must pass a medical and psychological exam in addition to a drug test.
- A valid Arkansas driver’s license with a clean driving record for the past three years.
- A citizen of the United States.
- No felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving violence, weapons, or illegal drugs.
- No Domestic Abuse convictions or pleas.
- Be of good moral character and maintain a high level of professionalism, attitude, appearance, and enthusiasm within the Department.

- Skill in observing situations and to record them clearly and accurately.
- Ability to understand, carry out and issue oral and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks at any given time.
- Ability to maintain proper self-restraint and composure during and following any altercation or incident.
- Ability to physically and mentally react in a variety of emergency law enforcement situations.
- Ability to learn Federal, State and City laws and ordinances including state-of-the-art modern police methods.
- Ability to Learn Arkansas Rules of Criminal Procedure and Arkansas Rules of Evidence including laws and Supreme Court decisions governing arrest, search and seizure.
- Additional Demands:
- As a member of the police department, the job at any time may require the employee to run, lift or carry injured person, use hand to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms, and may even endure physical altercations.
- At any time, duties may require the employee to endure physical force and respond with the minimum amount of force necessary to protect life or prevent bodily harm.
- This job may require the employee to be exposed to outside weather conditions including extreme heat and cold, wet and dry, and also working after dark and in emergency situations.
- A potential exposure to infectious diseases exists while dealing with suspects.
